San Francisco, I feel like I don’t even have to say that it's expensive and unaffordable for the average person, I'm sure the whole country knows it.

So what do you do when you get a job in the city but can’t afford to buy? Don't throw away your money by renting, rent is so high, you might as well buy.

I did a lot of research and there is a lot more but this is the top 5 cities I found near San Francisco that are decently affordable without the need to drive more than an hour.

MARTINEZ, CA

Distance: 35.2 Miles (47 mins) from San Francisco

Quick Bio: By 1849, Martinez served as a way station for the California Gold Rush. The town was laid out in 1849 by Col. William M. Smith and named for Martinez.

FunFact: In 1915 Shell Oil Company build an oil refinery.

RICHMOND, CA
